Personally I don’t really care about the turn of the year, I don’t really celebrate nor am I looking forward to this time of the year. Only thing that might be interesting is the fact (or fiction) that something new starts and one got kind of a new try.
Or just take it as a new chapter. But enough hype, let’s just keep it understated as always.
Between the holidays I tried to get some km in for the #festive500, but with several days full of icy roads and severe weather warnings, I don’t really managed to get near the 500km. But riding in the snow, below 0°, be chased by a dog during a night ride and crashing on icy roads has it’s own appeal. Wrong place for something like that and as Eddy Merckx famously said:
“Ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel.
But ride.” ~ Eddy Merckx
I’m fine with every km and I look forward to more cycling adventures in 2015.
Besides riding bikes, I tried to start a new chapter with AURORA in the last weeks.
The first AURORA track frame was released, the feedback so far was great and there will definitely be more.
Some really artful and awesome collaborations where released in 2014 and as i’m more than happy with the results, I’m even more amazed about the great artists and people I was allowed to meet.
Especially the friends at Rad Race and everything we did together so far.
2015 will better this even more and I can’t wait to start the new season with all those Rad Races around Germany and the Netherlands. You should better check out the Rad Race website and reserve a spot.
Another Grand Tour is already in the works and of course some new AURORA gear aswell!
Let’s see what 2015 has to offer and I’m sure we will meet on the road, a fair or a Rad Race near your town.

After riding aluminium frames for many years and more than 1,5 years research, it’s finally time to reveal something big – at least for me!
Let me start at the very beginning.
Being a huge fan of old Principia aluminium road and track frames for many years, it was sad to see this company going to change direction in 2004/05. I always wanted to bring back this dedicated craftsmanship, the classic geometry and the artisan quality which made the frames famous. Not that easy, when even most old-established italien cycling companies move their production to low-cost countries and the bicycle becomes a mass-produced item. But there are still many dedicated framebuilders who put their heart and soul in each and every frame they produce, you just have to find them. I was able to find one in Italy, who was able to help me produce the frames I was thinking of.
In times were sloping, whether it is positive or negative, seems to be the only choice and most people think carbon is the one and only material for modern and competitive frames. The AURORA “Australis” is our interpretation of the perfect aluminium frameset, merging a classic geometry with modern details and modern materials.
The product and whole production process mirrors the principles AURORA is based on.
Each frame is perfectly produced by a skilled and experienced framebuilder in Italy and carefully finished in Germany!

A high-performance aluminium Track frameset – Made in Italy!
The triple butted Dedacciai Force tubing is perfectly welded with smooth and seamless joints. The tubing is light, but offers the needed stiffness for fast riding and cornering.
The tapered headtube ensures front-end rigidity and precises steering. With our fork of choice, the Columbus FEL full carbon fork, the overall weight of the frameset is reduced and it also adds a lot to the comfort and improves the ride quality!
Our AURORA “Australis” Track frame features a pure track geometry with steep angles, tight clearance and a short wheelbase to achieve a sharp and responsive feeling on the road and on the track. Perfect for racing!
Every frame will be delivered with a Columbus FEL full carbon fork and a Campagnolo Seat Clamp.

Just one week left until Münsterland Giro. The RAD RACE Battle will take place on 3rd of October on the historical Prinzipalmarkt in Münster, the Prinzipalmarkt is one of the main streets in Münsters city centre and covered with historical pavé. The RAD RACE Battle is a rider against rider sprint battle on a straight 160 m pavé track!
This is going to be really interesting and worth a visit.

The last day of our tour is here. The previous ones went too fast and the weather seem to think the same. It was raining the whole night and morning in Hokksund. Today the last stage was around 100 km, but we decided to change the route just some minutes before leaving in heavy rain. The whole tour we had no real accidents and we wanted to get everyone safe to Oslo. So we cutted down the route and went for a 75 km ride with some elevation in the region around Oslo.
Luckily the rain stopped after just a few kilometers and the sun came up for us. Again the Norwegian nature/landscape showed what it has to offer, even in more populated areas. The clouds and morning fog were hanging deep in the hills that surrounded us. The stage was relaxed even when there were some short and steep climbs every now and then. Everyone had fun and besides the traffic jam we hit around Oslo it was a eased ride. As we arrived in Oslo we felt great and couldn’t believe that we rode from Hamburg more than 1200 km to finally end up in Oslo. Crossing Denmark, Sweden and minor parts of Norway. Our support/film crew was awaiting our arrival at the Opera House in the Oslo Harbor and it was kind of our personal Champs-Élysées as we climbed up to the highest point of the Opera House.
We made it.
Proud, exhausted, happy, sad, ease of mind, energized… so many different feelings in a few moments while looking at Oslo. The time sadly went fast, we had the best team we could wish for, made new friends and help each other in every situation. No big problems and no drama. Together we achieved something special and many of us wished to just continue riding together and see more places.
Maybe next year….
After a shower we went to Grünerløkka and had some burgers and milk-shakes in the Nighthawk Diner. Awesome place and the best choice for having the last evening together.

A cold monday morning in the south of norway. The sun was gleaming through the trees and we where expecting some exciting road cycling today. Today we had the choice of two routes. One with approx. 145km and significant elevation and a shorter and less demanding one with around 100 km.
Our group splitted up and started their journey. I took the longer route together with four other riders and it was one of the best choices we made during this trip. This stage had everything we love about cycling. Climbs, descents, stunning landscapes, sunshine and of course awesome teamwork to get everyone home safely.
This stage started with a lot waves, ups and downs among norwegian forrests, which was a nice challenge to start the day. We had a lot of fun, but were also happy to have our break, some coffee and pancakes while crossing the Oslo Fjord in Moss. This short transit gave us some time to relax and prepare for the second part of our route. We left the ferry in Horten and it seems that we now really entered Norway! A massiv and demanding climb just bid welcome after some kilometers, but the effort was rewarded directly – a perfect view at the Oslo Fjord while sweating and pedaling.
This was just the beginning, we passed by lakes on the right and left side of our route and the nature around us made us speechless. It feels like cycling is less exhausting when riding on less ridden roads and enjoying exceptional impressions. Sadly the kilometers flew by and the stage ended on our last campsite right next to a river in Hokksund. The rest of our crew was already waiting for us, they arrived just some minutes before us. We took the chance and sat down at the river and enjoyed the sundown while having some beers, until we set out to get some food at the local chinese restaurant.

The 7th chapter of our journey brought us from Kungshamn (Sweden) to Sarpsborg (Norway).
Weather forecast was good and we had no worries that something can go wrong.
On the 7th stage it was like a daily routine to pack everything together, have breakfast together and roll out together. Could be worse. Besides rolling the swedish landscapes, we also had a guest rider for some kilometers. A really fit over seventy-year old guy who rides 30 km everyday to stay in shape. That’s something to take inspiration from. All in all we had a good ride about approx. 150 km, had some trouble with the routing in the end, but finally found our way.
Crossing the Norwegian boarder on a larger bridge over a fjord and leave the second country behind us, was a great moment. On this stage we had three minor accidents, with riders mostly just falling of.
Sadly one accident was a bit heavier with a bruised hand, but after first aid we could continue without any problems.
The last 15 km saw some rain and we all got wet. Personally I liked it because this gave some more energy for the last pedal strokes to get under the hot shower on our camping site.
Same procedure as every evening. Shower, relax, eating together and go to bed early.
Slowly the feelings get mixed up a bit. Excitement about the journey so far and what might comes next, but also some sadness that there are just two stages left to ride.
Tomorrow we will cross the Oslo Fjord with a ferry and discover Norwegians nature in their best way! Hopefully!
Again the knee hurt today, but managed to get the whole stage done!

There we are. Sweden!
We had a great night and a good breakfast in our hostel in Gothenborg.
The sun was already shining on us and we were curious about the coming 155 kms of the 6th stage.
Kungshamn was our destination for today.
We started and after just a few kilometers we entered the swedish nature. The first ferry for today helped us cross a small fjord and showed us this regions beauty in the best possible way. We had empty side roads, ups and downs the whole day and also some short gravel roads.
The sunshine was guiding us along shores, forests and small villages. The car drivers in sweden seemed to be much more relaxed than those in denmark. The only honks we received where to cheer us and with friendly waving hands!
We also entered a small harbor city to have a larger break with burgers, pizza, salat.
The ride was awesome, but we had several flat tires and events that causes a loss of time. The sun was already gone and darkness covered the roads of our last kilometers. But we managed to get everyone home safe. We pumped up our tents and cooked some noodles. Everyone was excited after this great day. I’d might be the best route most of us had ever ridden.

This stage was about 160 km long, I forgot to start my garmin, but rode the whole tour. My knee still hurts but that’s not reason to stop pedaling. As Jens Voigt used to say: Shut up legs!
Today was a frantic stage. Our ferry from Frederikshavn to Göteborg was booked for 1400. So we had to arrive at the harbor by no later than 1330. But there where around 110 km for us to ride and so we sadly had to get up early. At 0830 the whole camp was packed and the ride began. It was a quick transfer ride without any special events. But as always we had several flat tires which costs us time and in the end, we made it to the ferry exactly in time with around 45 minutes left until the ship puts out to sea.
We had 3,5 hours time to relax at the ferry, got some food and chilled under deck.
As we finally arrived in Göteborg, we directly went to a cycling shop (CykelCity), to get some spare parts and made our way to the hostel. This is the first hostel we will spend our night in.
We all where happy about a real bed, as we were really exhausted.
We just rode across the whole country of denmark by bike within 5 days.
The end of this day saw one group leaving to Göteborgs City centre to get some food there and stroll through the nightlife, while the other group cooked something in the hostel.
We are finally in Sweden and we can’t wait to start our first stage over here.
The 4th stage saw us riding one of the longest stages from Ringköbing to Nibe.
It had everything road cycling has to offer, not weather-wise but mental-wise. The first kilometers were really easy and a good roll-in. But again the danish car drivers showed that they are not really fans of cyclists. Endless kilometers on much used highways with little to no side stripe or bicycle lane. So many danish car drivers honked at us and missed our group with just centimeters. After a longer break at the haven the mood was much better and we continued our ride. The end of this stage brightens everything, with it’s awesome scenery, lakes, wide landscape views and of course, the sundown when we rode the last kilometers around a lake, where our camping site was located on. Luckily our team van was already there and the crew managed to completely built up our camp.
The whole team went to Nibe after relaxing a bit and we had a great diner together to end this day.
I managed to ride the full stage, approx 171 km! Sadly I had massive knee pains for the last 80 km again. Thanks to Paul and Danny to get me through the last kms.
